Nigerian Air Force Boosts Troops’ Welfare With 100% Increase In Ration Cash Allowance

Nigerian Air Force Boosts Troops’ Welfare With 100% Increase In Ration Cash Allowance.

In a significant move to enhance the welfare of its personnel, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced a 100 percent increase in the Ration Cash Allowance (RCA) for its troops, effective as part of the 2025 budgetary provisions. The initiative, unveiled by Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, forms part of a broader package of welfare improvements aimed at boosting morale and addressing the rising cost of living.

The doubling of the RCA, which supports personnel in meeting their daily nutritional needs, has been hailed as a proactive response to economic challenges. “The 100 percent increase in Ration Cash Allowance is a proactive step to cushion the effects of inflation and rising food costs,” Air Marshal Abubakar stated during a commissioning ceremony for 160 new ensuite flats for airmen in Lagos. The event also highlighted other welfare measures, including the introduction of a Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy, the distribution of new uniforms, and an upward review of the monthly electricity subsidy for the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base.

Further demonstrating the NAF’s commitment to its personnel, the Chief of Air Staff announced the procurement of advanced medical equipment for the 661 NAF Hospital in Ikeja, ensuring improved healthcare access for troops and their families. “We are also distributing new uniforms and accoutrements, with a target of 100 percent coverage within two weeks,” Abubakar added, underscoring the force’s focus on comprehensive support for its members.

The announcement has been met with widespread approval. Posts across social media platforms reflected positive sentiment, with users commending the NAF’s efforts to prioritise personnel welfare amidst ongoing security operations across the country. The welfare package comes at a critical time, as the NAF continues to play a pivotal role in combating insurgency and banditry in regions such as the North-West and North-East.

This increase follows a similar move by the Nigerian Army, which recently raised its troops’ daily RCA from ₦1,500 to ₦3,000, effective from March 2025, indicating a broader push within the Nigerian Armed Forces to improve conditions for service members. The NAF’s initiatives, including housing projects and enhanced insurance cover, signal a strategic effort to ensure operational efficiency while fostering a supportive environment for its personnel.

As the NAF continues to strengthen its capabilities, these measures are expected to enhance troop morale and sustain the force’s effectiveness in safeguarding Nigeria’s airspace and supporting national security objectives.
