Nigeria’s next opponent at the on going Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) will be confirmed today (Tuesday).
According to CAF’s official schedule, which means that Jose Peseiro’s men will play the team that finishes second in Group C.
Nigeria Super Eagles are through to the Round of 16 after finishing as runners-up in Group A
And the final positions in Group C will be revealed later today.
Defending Champions Senegal currently top that group with six points from two matches.
However, their last group match against Guinea has significant implications.
A win for Guinea who are second with four points, would mean that they will finish as group leaders. The implications of this is that Senegal would drop to second place, setting up a showdown with Nigeria in the knockout stage.
However, a draw or a Senegal win would see the Teranga Lions maintain their position at the summit as group leaders ensuring Guinea finish second and become Nigeria’s last-16 opponent.
The indomitable Lions of Cameroon, who currently have just one point from two matches, must defeat Gambia whilst hoping for favourable results in the other group game.
Things can as well change significantly if Cameroon wins and likewise Senegal over Guinea, this could see the Indomitable Lions overtake the Guineans as group runners-up and eventually become the opponent of the Nigeria Super Eagles.
We keep our fingers crossed until the results are out later today to ascertain the official opponent of the Super Eagles in the round of 16.
