Nigeria Immigration Service Announces Passport Fee Hike to ₦100,000 and Dolores and ₦200,000 Effective September 2025.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has unveiled a substantial increase in passport application fees, effective from 1 September 2025. According to a statement released on Thursday, 28 August 2025, by Service Public Relations Officer ACI AS Akinlabi, a 32-page passport with a five-year validity will now cost ₦100,000, while a 64-page passport with a ten-year validity will be priced at ₦200,000. These new fees apply solely to applications processed within Nigeria.
For Nigerians abroad, the fees remain unchanged at $150 for a 32-page passport with five-year validity and $230 for a 64-page passport with ten-year validity. The NIS stated that the fee adjustment aims to ensure the continued quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, supporting enhancements in service delivery and passport durability.
The fee increase has sparked significant debate, with many Nigerians expressing concerns about affordability amid economic pressures. The doubled costs have raised questions about accessibility for citizens facing rising living expenses.
The NIS urged applicants to use the online portal at passport.immigration.gov.ng for a smoother application process and to verify details through official channels. Recent improvements, such as home delivery services and backlog clearance, reflect the agency’s commitment to efficiency.
With the new fees set to take effect next month, the NIS advises applicants to prepare by ensuring they have their National Identification Number (NIN) and all required documentation to avoid delays.
