Nigeria’s Female Basketball Team D’Tigress and the current champions of Africa Basketball Championship will be competing in Belgium to pick a ticket for the Olympics. Says Musa Adamu
Whilst chatting with Newsmen, the General Manager of Nigeria basketball national teams, Musa Adamu, has given assurances to Nigerians about the readiness of the reigning African basketball champions, D’Tigress of Nigeria that they will do well and make the nation proud at the FIBA Women’s Olympic qualifiers tournament, scheduled to hold between February 8-11 2024 in Belgium.
In his words Adamu, acknowledges that there are apparent concerns by stakeholders and lovers of Nigerian basketball, as the D’Tigress are yet to resume camping ahead of the tournament. He was quick to however, explain that Basketball is entirely different from Football, where the governing body makes it compulsory for clubs to release invited players two weeks prior the tournament, but with basketball it’s completely different.
“Football governing body makes it mandatory for clubs to release invited players two weeks before a championship. However, for FIBA organised tournaments, it is just seven days before the event starts,” he explained.
“That the girls are not in camp yet, doesn’t mean the team won’t be ready. The coach knows the team and the players she needs. Right now, most of the girls are busy playing with their different clubs and colleges,” he stated.
The regarded administrator however hopes earnestly that the federal government will release the needed funds so as to ensure the participation of the D’Tigress in the tournament….
