Nigeria Drawn in Group D for AFCON 2025 Qualifiers.

The draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 qualifiers was held in Johannesburg on Thursday, setting the stage for Nigeria’s campaign to reclaim continental glory. Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been placed in Group D, alongside Benin, Libya, and Rwanda.

Forty-eight African countries will vie for qualification to the 35th edition of the biennial Africa showpiece, with the goal of dethroning current champions, Côte d’Ivoire. The defending champions secured their title by defeating Nigeria 2-1 in the final of this year’s tournament in Abidjan.

The draw, conducted by Côte d’Ivoire’s coach Emerse Fae and Morocco legend Marouane Chamakh, saw Côte d’Ivoire placed in Group G, where they will face former champions Zambia, Sierra Leone, and Chad.

Hosts Morocco, already assured of participation, will compete in Group B against Gabon, the Central African Republic, and Lesotho. Their campaign will have less pressure, given their automatic qualification as hosts.

The qualifiers are scheduled to start in September 2024 and conclude in November 2024. The top two teams from each of the eleven groups, excluding Group B which includes hosts Morocco, will qualify for the tournament.

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, the premier sporting event in Africa, will take place from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 in Morocco.
