NFF Set to Introduce Finidi George as Super Eagles’ Head Coach.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is preparing for a significant event on Monday in Abuja, where they will officially unveil Mr. Finidi George as the new Head Coach of the Senior Men’s National Team, the Super Eagles.
Expected at the unveiling ceremony are notable figures such as Minister of Sports Development Senator John Owan Enoh, Permanent Secretary Mrs. Tinuke Watti, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.
Finidi George recently turned down an opportunity to coach a second-tier team in Spain to return to Nigeria and take charge of Enyimba FC, a two-time CAF Champions League winner. In his second season, he led the club to victory in the challenging Nigeria elite division, and currently, Enyimba FC is in contention to retain the title this season with six matches remaining.
Upon George’s departure from Enyimba FC, the team maintained third place on the NPFL log, with 53 points from 32 matches, trailing Enugu Rangers by four points and Remo Stars by three.
Having served as an assistant to Portuguese coach José Peseiro for 20 months, George played a pivotal role in the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. The team also reached the final, narrowly missing out on a fourth African title in Cote d’Ivoire.
As a former player with 62 caps for Nigeria at the senior level, including winning the Africa Cup of Nations gold, silver, and bronze medals, and participating in two FIFA World Cup finals, George brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
His immediate focus will be on securing maximum points in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa (home) and Benin Republic (away).
