NFF President Urges Enyimba Players To Focus Beyond Finances After CAF Confederation Cup Qualification.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, paid a surprise visit to Enyimba’s dressing room on Sunday, following their dramatic victory over Etoile Filante in the final qualifying match of the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) in Uyo. The People’s Elephant secured their spot in the group stage after a tense 3-2 penalty shootout win, which came after a goalless draw in both legs of the tie.
Gusau, while congratulating the team on their hard-fought win, also shared words of wisdom with the players, advising them not to constantly focus on financial matters. “Don’t talk about money always,” he remarked, urging them to prioritise their passion for the game and continued success in their campaign.
Enyimba, under the guidance of coach Yemi Olanrewaju, dominated the match in Uyo but struggled to convert their chances, allowing Filante to take the game to penalties after holding them to a stalemate. Despite the missed opportunities, Enyimba held their nerve in the shootout, securing their place in the prestigious group stage.
Gusau also reassured the team of the NFF’s full support as they advance in the competition, encouraging them to maintain their determination and focus on the journey ahead.
This victory reaffirms Enyimba’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most successful clubs, and they will now look forward to making their mark in the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
