NFF President Ibrahim Gusau Promises Exciting New Year For Nigerian Football.
As the year 2024 comes to a close, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is looking forward to an exciting year ahead, with President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau assuring Nigerians that the National Teams will bring joy and glory to the nation in 2025.
Gusau reflected on the outgoing year, highlighting the Super Eagles’ impressive performance against Ghana’s Black Galaxies, which secured their spot in the 8th African Nations Championship. He emphasized that the NFF’s focus is on adequately preparing all National Teams to compete for honors at major tournaments, rather than just participating.
“The era of Nigerian teams arriving at major championships just to participate is gone,” Gusau stated. “Our objective now is to ensure that our teams can strongly contend for honors anywhere.”
The NFF president also addressed the Super Eagles’ under-par performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, expressing his commitment to rebuilding the team that impressed at the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire. “Getting that FIFA World Cup ticket will set the momentum for a sterling outing at the AFCON in Morocco later in the year,” he added.
Furthermore, Gusau assured that the Super Falcons, Africa’s best-ranked team, will receive adequate preparation to reclaim the Women Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco next summer. The junior women national teams, Falconets and Flamingos, were also praised for their performances, with Gusau charging them to consolidate their gains in the coming year.
With a busy year ahead for Nigerian football, the NFF is committed to working closely with the National Sports Commission to achieve their goals and objectives. As Gusau emphasized, “Our attention will remain on developing the game from the grassroots while ensuring that the production channels for players coming through to the National Teams are not disrupted.”
