The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in a raid conducted in Lagos, Edo, and Ondo states seized about 44,948.1 kilograms of illicit drugs, along with the apprehension of eight suspects linked to drug cartels.
According to Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for NDLEA, the agency’s operatives targeted multiple locations where drug activities were suspected.
In Edo State, over 14,000 kilograms of psychoactive substances were discovered and destroyed in Ohosu/Ugbogui forest. This operation led to the arrest of five suspects, including Sunday Otulugbu and Agbayeogor Joshua.
In Ondo State, NDLEA operatives raided warehouses in Ala forest, where 7,687.8 kilograms of cannabis were seized and another 670 kilograms were evacuated.
Three suspects, Kabiru Idris, Alaba Jimoh, and Lekan Asobere, were apprehended during this operation.
Similarly In Lagos State, where an operation in the Ajah area led to the seizure of 10,534 kilograms of Ghanaian Loud, a strain of cannabis. Additionally, 11 vehicles belonging to the drug cartel were confiscated during the raid.
Individual arrests also took place across various states. In Lagos, Miracle Obi was caught with a significant quantity of controlled substances, while Kareem Mustapha was intercepted along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with tramadol pills and pentazocine injection.
In Kaduna, Abdulqadir Muhammad was apprehended with a substantial amount of cannabis.
Furthermore, the agency’s efforts extended to Kano State, where a syndicate dealing in cocaine and heroin was dismantled, leading to the arrest of Onyeka Uba and Ubale Sani. In Abuja, three leaders of a cocaine syndicate were apprehended, with substantial quantities of drugs seized from their residences.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, commended the officers and men involved in the operations for their dedication and outstanding achievements.
He also apraised the agency’s advocacy campaigns aimed at raising awareness about drug abuse in schools, markets, motor parks, worship centers, and workplaces nationwide.
