NCC And MCSN Promote Copyright Awareness In Kaduna.
The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), in partnership with the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN), hosted a stakeholders’ engagement and awareness event in Kaduna.
The event, themed “Enjoy Music, Respect Copyright, Protect Your Business,” aimed to educate music users on copyright laws and highlight the significance of paying royalties to support musicians and the creative industry.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Rukayya Yeldu, the State Coordinator of the NCC Kaduna office, stressed the vital role copyright laws play in protecting the livelihood of musicians and other creative professionals. She reminded attendees that paying royalties is both a legal obligation and a moral duty for those using music in their businesses.
“The creative industry thrives on fairness and respect for intellectual property. By paying royalties, you’re not only complying with the law but also ensuring that musicians and other stakeholders can sustain their livelihoods,” Mrs Yeldu said.
The Director-General of MCSN, Mr Mayowa Ayilaran, gave a detailed presentation on MCSN’s role in the creative sector. He encouraged business owners to obtain the proper licences for the music they use, emphasising the organisation’s commitment to supporting artists and ensuring that their works are protected and fairly compensated.
The event was well-attended by business operators, music enthusiasts, and stakeholders in the creative industry, who commended the initiative as a positive step towards fostering respect for intellectual property in Nigeria.
