NCAA Calls For Investigation And Prosecution Of K1 De Ultimate Over Airport Incident.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has formally petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate and prosecute veteran Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, following a disruptive incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The altercation, which occurred on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, aboard ValueJet flight VK201, has raised serious concerns about passenger conduct and aviation safety.

According to the NCAA, K1 De Ultimate allegedly attempted to block a moving ValueJet aircraft after being removed from the flight for reportedly carrying a flask containing alcohol, which he is said to have spilled on an aviation staff member during a confrontation. The agency described the musician’s actions as a clear violation of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023, disrupting standard operational procedures and compromising safety protocols. Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, stated that the authority has called for a “comprehensive criminal investigation” and “appropriate prosecution” to uphold aviation standards.

In a decisive move, the NCAA’s Director General, Capt. Chris Najomo, issued an advisory to the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), urging them to consider placing K1 De Ultimate on a no-fly list for all commercial flights pending the outcome of the investigation. This directive aligns with global aviation standards prioritising the safety of passengers, crew, and airline operations. The NCAA has also imposed a six-month blacklist on the musician, warning that any airline allowing him to board during this period risks having its operating licence revoked.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, addressed the incident, confirming he had reviewed reports and video footage from relevant aviation agencies. While supporting the NCAA’s suspension of two ValueJet pilots involved in the incident for unsafe conduct, Keyamo insisted that the passenger’s actions must also face consequences. “I will not sit idly by and allow this to pass,” he declared, reinforcing the need for accountability.

The NCAA reiterated its commitment to ensuring that no individual, regardless of status, undermines the integrity of Nigeria’s aviation industry. “Passengers are held to the same standards of behaviour and compliance within Nigeria’s airspace,” Achimugu emphasised. The authority promised to provide updates as the investigation progresses, underscoring that aviation safety remains non-negotiable.

Public reaction has been mixed, with some Nigerians expressing support for the NCAA’s firm stance, while others, particularly fans of the Fuji icon, have called for leniency. The incident has sparked broader discussions about passenger conduct and the enforcement of aviation regulations in Nigeria’s rapidly growing air travel sector.
