The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has granted approval for the establishment of the country’s inaugural children’s television station.
Spearheaded by Idowu Sowunmi, a former editorial member of ThisDay Newspapers, the newly licensed station has the potential to completely transform youth entertainment and education in Nigeria.
Based in Lagos State, the innovative station, operated by Three Tees Entertainment Limited, is designed to cater specifically to the entertainment and educational needs of Nigeria’s youth. With df programming, including locally-produced and international content spanning cartoons, educational shows, and live-action series, the station aims to offer high-quality, age-appropriate content that fosters learning, creativity, and positive values.
Sowunmi, the chairman of Three Tees Entertainment Limited, expressed his dedication to providing a platform that inspires, educates, and entertains Nigeria’s future leaders. He stated the company’s commitment to pioneering initiatives that empower children to express themselves and contribute meaningfully to societal development.
“The approval of Nigeria’s first children’s TV station marks a historic moment in our broadcasting landscape,” stated Sowunmi. “With over 100 million children aged 0 to 14 years constituting approximately 44 percent of Nigeria’s total population, our focus is to give this demographic a voice and a platform to make meaningful contributions.”
This initiative not only represents a step forward for Nigeria’s media industry but also promises to have far-reaching impacts on the lives of children across the country. Furthermore, if regulatory licence is obtained, Three Tees Entertainment Limited intends to expand even further, launching Nigeria’s first children’s radio station.
