The National Judicial Council (NJC) has sounded the alarm regarding a nefarious scheme targeting retired judges across Nigeria, aimed at defrauding them of their entitled retirement benefits.
In a statement released on Sunday, the NJC expressed its concern over reports of fraudsters inundating retired judges with deceptive phone calls, falsely claiming to expedite the processing of their retirement benefits in exchange for various sums of money.
The NJC, through its Director of Information, Soji Oye, stated its complete disassociation from such fraudulent activities, warning retired judicial officers to remain vigilant and not succumb to the ploys of scammers. The statement unequivocally stated that the NJC does not engage in soliciting funds from retired judges to hasten the disbursement of their retirement benefits.
“The attention of the National Judicial Council has been drawn to the incessant phone calls being made to retired Judicial Officers by some unscrupulous individuals demanding payments to fast track the processing of their retirement benefits,” the statement reads.
The NJC urged retired judges and the public at large to disregard any such solicitation calls and promptly report them to the Pension Department of the Council for appropriate action.
