Nasarawa Permanent Secretary Abducted, Police Launch Statewide Manhunt.
Suspected gunmen have kidnapped Barrister Yusuf Musa, the Permanent Secretary of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Information, Tourism, and Culture, from his residence in the Shinge area of Lafia, the state capital. The abduction, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 15 July 2025, has prompted an immediate and robust response from the Nasarawa State Police Command, who have launched a comprehensive manhunt to rescue the victim and apprehend the culprits.
The incident came to light when a patrol team from B Division, Lafia, discovered a Peugeot pick-up van with all its doors left open in a suspicious manner around 3:05 a.m. Upon closer inspection, officers found the gate to Musa’s residence ajar, raising immediate concerns. A swift search of the premises confirmed that the permanent secretary was missing, along with his GMC vehicle, registered as KUJ 88 PA, strongly suggesting an abduction. Sources indicate that the assailants, reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles, trailed Musa and forcibly took him as he attempted to enter his home in the Tudun Gwanfara area of Lafia.
The Nasarawa State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has mobilised tactical teams across the state, with units in Akwanga, Andaha, Garaku, and Kadarko placed on high alert. Surveillance has been deployed along key routes to intercept the suspects, and the Commissioner has ordered an intensive statewide operation to ensure Musa’s safe rescue. “The Command remains unwavering in its commitment to rescuing the victim and bringing those responsible to justice,” a police statement affirmed.
Musa, a lawyer by profession and former General Manager of the Nasarawa Broadcasting Service, is a prominent figure in the state’s civil service. His abduction has heightened concerns about security in Nasarawa, particularly following a recent armed attack on police officers near the Benue State border and other incidents of kidnapping in the region. The police have urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, encouraging anyone with information to contact the nearest police station or use the Command’s emergency lines: 08036157659, 08037461715, and 07032532391.
The abduction has sparked alarm among residents of Lafia, with many expressing hope for Musa’s safe return. The police have assured the public that all resources are being deployed to resolve the case swiftly, while calling for community cooperation to aid the investigation. As the manhunt intensifies, authorities are under pressure to address the growing challenge of kidnappings in Nasarawa State and restore confidence in public safety.
