Napoli continued their steady march towards the league title on Saturday. Luciano Spalletti’s men beat Salernitana 2-0 in Salerno thanks to goals from Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Victor Osimhen to move 12 points clear of second-placed AC Milan, who have a game in hand. It will be a tough task for the Partenopei not to lift the league title to the skies above Naples.
Napoli did not miss the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table when they took on bottom-placed Salernitana. Spalletti’s side, the only top side playing on Saturday, easily beat an opponent that held on for most of the first half thanks to Guillermo Ochoa’s saves. The Mexican goalkeeper was the standout performer in a game that had only one real winner: the visitors.
It took Di Lorenzo until added time at the end of the first half to find the net and put the win on track, which was sealed by Osimhen’s 13th goal of the game, shortly after the start of the second half.
Napoli reach 50 points on the final day of the first half of the season. They are the third team in the history of Serie A to do so since the awarding of three points for a win was introduced, after Juventus and Inter.
