The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest Zone D has publicly distanced itself from rumored protests against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement released today, the student body expressed its full support for the EFCC’s efforts to combat cybercrime and other illegal activities that tarnish the reputation of Nigerian youth.
Com. Alao John, Coordinator of NANS Southwest Zone D, emphasized the association’s stance, stating, “We are not in support of any form of protest against the EFCC. Instead, we stand in solidarity with the EFCC and are committed to working collaboratively with them.”
The statement highlighted the positive relationship between Nigerian students in the Southwest and the EFCC, founded on mutual respect and a shared commitment to integrity and transparency. NANS Southwest urged students and community members to avoid participating in any protests against the anti-graft agency and to continue supporting efforts to promote accountability.
In a proactive move, NANS Southwest announced an upcoming program titled “The Effect of Cybercrime on National Development: Our Role as Nigerian Students.” This initiative aims to educate students about the impacts of cybercrime and their role in combating it.
The association also took the opportunity to showcase the achievements of Nigerian students, noting their “amazing intelligence quotient” and excellent academic records in universities worldwide.
This public endorsement of the EFCC by NANS Southwest comes at a time when the anti-corruption agency has been intensifying its efforts to curb financial crimes, particularly those involving young people and students.
