The two-day operation, carried out on 16 and 17 December 2024, uncovered fake and expired products including beverages, carbonated drinks, wines, spirits, vegetable oils, and revalidated food items such as noodles, powdered milk, and yoghurt, worth an estimated ₦5 billion. The move is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on the distribution and sale of substandard products that pose serious risks to consumers.
Speaking on the development, a representative from NAFDAC highlighted the agency’s commitment to enforcing strict compliance with regulatory standards. “This operation sends a clear message that the agency will not tolerate any activities that endanger public health,” they said.
The affected shops have been sealed, and investigations are underway to identify and prosecute those involved. NAFDAC also called on traders and consumers to remain vigilant, urging them to report any suspected cases of fake or expired products.
This bold action underscores NAFDAC’s resolve to safeguard Nigerians from harmful products while ensuring that markets remain safe and trustworthy spaces for trade.
