MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, in collaboration with the School of Media and Communications at Pan-Atlantic University, has announced the commencement of applications for the third iteration of the MTN Media Innovation Programme (MTN MIP-3).
The programme is scheduled to kick off on May 20, 2024, at the Main Campus of Pan-Atlantic University, located in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
Initially launched in 2022, the MTN Media Innovation Programme aims to provide media practitioners with comprehensive insights into the ever-evolving media landscape.
The six-month fully-funded certificate fellowship, which includes a study visit to the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, and access to an innovation hub for idea incubation, is open to professionals across all sectors of the media industry, including print, electronic, online platforms, and social media content creators.
Tobechukwu Okigbo, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Nigeria, emphasised the pivotal role of the media in shaping society. He highlighted the importance of empowering media practitioners with tools and opportunities to enhance their performance, ultimately benefiting society as a whole. Okigbo reiterated MTN’s commitment to fostering innovation among media professionals through programmes like the MTN Media Innovation Programme.
Dr. Ikechukwu Obiaya, Dean of the School of Media and Communication at Pan-Atlantic University, underscored the program’s alignment with the school’s ethos of nurturing creativity, ethics, and professionalism among journalists.
He emphasised the need for journalists to adapt to technological advancements and challenges while upholding core journalistic values. The Media Innovation Programme, according to Obiaya, serves as a platform to equip journalists with the necessary skills to navigate the changing media landscape successfully.
Upon completion of the training, 20 successful applicants will be selected as Fellows for the 2024 cohort. These fellows will receive coaching on Nigeria’s technology sector, the interplay between media and technology, and the skills required for career advancement and financial success in the field.
Fellows will benefit from access to professional resources and mentorship from Pan-Atlantic University’s esteemed faculty.
Applications for the MTN Media Innovation Programme opened on Friday, March 23, 2024, and will close on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
