Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, has strongly criticized the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) for their disparaging remarks regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Matawalle condemned the NEF’s assertion that the North regrets supporting Tinubu in the 2023 general elections, labeling their comments as “reprehensible and naive.”
Describing the NEF as a “political paperweight seeking recognition,” Matawalle emphasized that the forum does not represent the entire Northern region and accused them of living in delusion. He asserted that the NEF’s statements are detrimental to political unity and cohesion in Nigeria.
Matawalle stated President Tinubu’s convincing victory in the February 2023 presidential election and questioned the NEF’s authority to undermine his presidency or threaten to unseat him. He noted that President Tinubu’s government has brought significant development to the North, and urged the NEF to acknowledge the positive impact of his administration.
Matawalle criticized the NEF for neglecting their responsibility to engage with President Tinubu on issues affecting the Northern region. He urged them to prioritize unity and cooperation within the North and to support Tinubu’s presidency for the betterment of Nigeria.
Matawalle advised the NEF and others to align with the present government and work together with President Tinubu to propel the country forward.
