Best Manager Erik ten Hag to Remain at Manchester United.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag revealed that his summer holiday in Ibiza was interrupted by the club, who flew out to inform him they wanted him to stay on as manager.
Ten Hag’s future had been uncertain before he led United to victory in the FA Cup final, but the club has decided to keep the Dutchman in place. “The club management came to me while I was on holiday in Ibiza,” Ten Hag said on Dutch TV channel NOS. “They suddenly showed up on my doorstep and told me they wanted to continue with me.”
United finished eighth last season, their lowest position in the Premier League era. Despite this, the club’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe decided to retain Ten Hag after considering other candidates, including former Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel.
“Manchester United have told me that they spoke with Tuchel, but they eventually came to the conclusion that they already have the best manager,” Ten Hag added. “Ineos took their time. They are new in football, it’s normal to reflect on the season. It’s no secret that they talked with multiple candidates.”
Ten Hag, who has managed Manchester United since the summer of 2022, led the club to third place in the Premier League in his debut season. He also guided the team to the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals, securing the EFL Cup victory in 2023.
While Ten Hag has the backing of the United board, he confirmed that he has yet to finalise a new contract. “Manchester United and I still have to find an agreement for the new contract. This isn’t easily done – we are still going to have to talk about this,” he said.
