Manchester United managed to squeeze a goal past Luton Town to end 1-nil winners.
United manager Erik ten Hag kept faith with Marcus Rashford despite the forward’s costly red card midweek in Denmark against Copenhagen in their UEFA Champions League group match, but neither he nor his team-mates could break down their opponent’s defence in the first half.
Just before the hour mark there was relief for Ten Hag and the home fans as Luton failed to properly clear a corner and Victor Lindelof was on hand to pounce on a loose ball to fire home.
After struggling with their defence in recent weeks, it may provide a boost to the team that they held on for the three points, with the result lifting them into sixth ahead of the rest of the weekend’s games.
Luton are now 17th on the league table.
