Manchester United have suffered another injury setback with Aaron Wan-Bissaka ruled out for “several weeks”.
The right-back had started every Premier League game for United this season before coming on as a late substitute in the 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
Wan-Bissaka did not make the XI as he had been unwell and is now set to miss the next few matches.
A statement from the club said: “Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set for a period on the sidelines after sustaining an injury during the closing stages of Saturday’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion.
“Further assessment will be needed to determine how long Wan-Bissaka will be out for, but initial indications suggest it will be several weeks.”
Wan-Bissaka joins a significant injury list at United, currently totalling nine players.
Summer signings Mason Mount and Soyfan Amrabat are among those out, along with Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane and Tyrell Malacia.
United are next in action on Wednesday when they face Bayern Munich in their first group-stage match in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League.
Asked if any injured players could be back for the match, Ten Hag said: “Maybe, maybe one player, but I think Munich is a little bit too short.
“But I think, when we go to Burnley in the week after, I think players will return, yes.”
United’s loss to Brighton was their third defeat in their last four matches.
They will be put to the test again as they face Bayern, who will have summer signing Harry Kane leading the line.
“Bayern Munich I think is one of the favourites to win the Champions League so we have to be good there,” said Ten Hag.
“But I think I have already explained what we need there – we need character, belief, resilience, determination, absolutely.”
United are 13th in the Premier League with two wins from five games.
