Manchester United Appoint Ruben Amorim As New Head Coach.
Manchester United have announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, marking an exciting new chapter for the club. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager will officially take charge at Old Trafford from 11 November, following his departure from Sporting Lisbon. Amorim has signed a contract with United that will see him at the helm until June 2027.
Following the recent dismissal of Erik ten Hag, former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped in as interim manager and will continue to lead the team for the next three matches. However, Amorim, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches, is set to bring his expertise and passion to the squad.
In a statement, Manchester United expressed their confidence in Amorim, describing him as “one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football.”
Sporting Lisbon confirmed the agreement with Manchester United, revealing that the English club paid €11 million (£9.25 million) to activate the release clause in Amorim’s contract. His tenure at Sporting has been highly successful, highlighted by leading the team to the Primeira Liga title last season and maintaining an impressive 14-match unbeaten streak since August.
Amorim’s first match in charge of Manchester United will take place on 24 November against Ipswich Town in the Premier League. Shortly after, he will make his home debut against Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on 28 November, followed by a league clash with Everton.
Before joining United, Amorim will conclude his commitments with Sporting, which include a league match against Braga on 10 November. His final days at the Portuguese club will see him face Estrela and Manchester City in the Champions League, after which he will depart for Old Trafford.
Amorim’s coaching journey has been marked by rapid success. Beginning in 2018 with third-tier Portuguese side Casa Pia, he soon advanced to manage Braga’s B team, followed by a short but impactful stint with their senior squad. During his time with Braga, Amorim led the team to a historic away victory against Benfica and a Taca da Liga triumph over Porto.
Manchester United fans eagerly anticipate Amorim’s fresh approach and leadership, hoping he can guide the club back to winning ways.
