Liverpool Strengthen Title Push With Comeback Win Against Leicester.
Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points with a determined 3-1 victory over struggling Leicester City at Anfield.
Despite Leicester’s recent poor form, which included five defeats in seven matches, the visitors shocked the home crowd early on when Jordan Ayew found the net with a sharp finish in the sixth minute.
Liverpool endured a frustrating first half as Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah both struck the woodwork. However, just before the break, Cody Gakpo levelled the score with a sublime curling strike from the edge of the box.
The equaliser energised the hosts, and they took the lead four minutes into the second half. Curtis Jones, making his 100th Premier League appearance, finished off a precise cross from Alexis Mac Allister to put Liverpool ahead.
Leicester had a chance to pull level when Patson Daka mis-kicked in front of an open goal, a miss that proved costly. Mohamed Salah then put the game to bed with a sweeping finish in the 75th minute, scoring his 19th goal of the season.
The victory leaves Liverpool in a commanding position at the Premier League summit. They are now seven points clear, with a game in hand over their nearest challengers. With a trip to West Ham on Sunday, Liverpool have an opportunity to extend their lead to 10 points before Chelsea, their closest rivals, play on Monday.
Leicester, meanwhile, find themselves in the relegation zone following Wolves’ victory over Manchester United earlier in the day. With three consecutive defeats, the Foxes are just one point away from safety but face a daunting task to turn their season around.
As Liverpool continue their charge towards the title, Leicester must regroup quickly to avoid being drawn deeper into the relegation battle.
