Liverpool Finalizes £9.4m Deal with Feyenoord for Arne Slot
Arne Slot is on the verge of becoming Liverpool’s next manager, following the agreement of a compensation package worth up to £9.4 million with Feyenoord.
The Dutchman is slated to take over from Jurgen Klopp, who announced his departure from Anfield at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Liverpool is now in the process of finalizing a contract with the 45-year-old before officially confirming his appointment.
As part of the deal, Liverpool will pay Feyenoord £7.7 million (9 million euros) upfront, with an additional £1.7 million (2 million euros) possible through performance-related add-ons.
Slot’s successful tenure at Feyenoord, which includes winning the Eredivisie title in 2022-23 and clinching the Dutch Cup this season, has made him an attractive choice for Liverpool.
The attacking style of Slot’s teams, his managerial approach, and his knack for player development are cited as crucial factors in Liverpool’s decision to pursue him for the role.
Slot expressed his interest in managing in the Premier League previously when linked with Tottenham in 2023. Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso and Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim were also rumored contenders for the managerial position at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp, while praising Slot’s coaching style and character, expressed optimism about Slot’s potential impact at Liverpool if appointed.
Slot’s coaching journey began as a youth coach at PEC Zwolle before progressing to managerial roles at SC Cambuur and AZ Alkmaar, where he achieved notable success, including a second-place finish in the Eredivisie.
Slot’s confirmation of wanting the Liverpool job further solidifies his imminent move to the Premier League, marking a significant transition for both him and the club.
