Lewandowski Shines As Barcelona Maintain Perfect La Liga Start With Getafe Victory.
Robert Lewandowski continued his impressive form, scoring his seventh league goal of the season as Barcelona secured a 1-0 victory over Getafe, extending their perfect start in La Liga. The win marks their seventh consecutive triumph, putting Hansi Flick’s side four points clear at the top of the table, ahead of Real Madrid.
Lewandowski’s decisive 19th-minute goal came after Getafe goalkeeper David Soria failed to deal with a Jules Koundé cross, allowing the Polish striker to volley home from close range. The goal adds to Lewandowski’s recent form, having contributed to six goals in his last four league matches (four goals and two assists).
Getafe had an opportunity to equalise when Alex Sola delivered a pinpoint cross, but Carles Pérez’s header was easily saved by Barcelona’s goalkeeper Iñaki Peña. The 25-year-old Peña was making his first start of the season after Marc-André ter Stegen suffered a long-term injury during Barcelona’s previous match against Villarreal.
Barcelona have been linked with former Arsenal and Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, who retired in August. However, after the Getafe match, manager Hansi Flick reiterated his faith in Peña, stating, “Iñaki is our number one goalkeeper, and we’re very happy with him. The other goalkeepers are very young, and we need more experience, so we’re discussing it.”
Barcelona dominated possession and created multiple chances. Lamine Yamal’s curling shot was tipped over by a diving save from Soria, while Raphinha was also lively, forcing Soria into action on several occasions. Despite their control, Barcelona were nearly punished for missed opportunities in the final moments, when Getafe substitute Borja Mayoral failed to connect properly with a chance, sending his shot wide.
With this victory, Barcelona continue their flawless run in La Liga, maintaining their position as league leaders and reinforcing their title ambitions.
