The Lagos State Government is gearing up to enforce stringent measures requiring the provision of fire-fighting devices in buildings, aligning with the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, 2019, as amended.
According to the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, this decision is a proactive step to prevent fire disasters in the state, particularly in the wake of the recent fire outbreak at Mandilas building on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
Dr. Olumide emphasized the urgency for compliance with Physical Planning Laws, urging property owners and developers to prioritize safety measures to avoid potential disasters.
He stressed the importance of fire safety devices, placing them on par with maintaining proper setbacks and airspaces. Compliance with these regulations, he noted, is crucial for the safety and security of lives and property.
The commissioner called on property owners to strictly adhere to the stipulations of Physical Planning Laws to avoid facing the sealing of their pro perties.
