Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled the Electronic Geographic Information System (e-GIS) portal, revolutionizing the process of land acquisition and documentation in the state.
The e-GIS portal innovation eradicates the involvement of middlemen, reducing costs for applicants who would typically engage lawyers, surveyors, and registration agents.
With this new system, individuals can effortlessly verify, search, and apply for various land titles, including Governor’s Consent, from the comfort of their homes. The portal also facilitates requests for government surveys and applications for Certified True Copies (CTC) of landed properties.
The initiative builds upon the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) foundation laid by former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu and enhanced by the Babatunde Fashola administration.
Sanwo-Olu’s e-GIS has organized and merged all archived land records dating back to the 19th century, offering a comprehensive database of historical transactional data on each parcel of land in Lagos.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed joy at the successful launch of the e-GIS portal, emphasizing its transformative impact on land allocation, precision in economic valuation, and transparent governance. He highlighted the portal’s role in reducing transaction turnaround time and resource commitment for data searches.
The e-GIS portal is powered by the Momentum Land Administration Solution software, placing Lagos among global cities leveraging technology for sustainable solutions. Governor Sanwo-Olu urged government staff to embrace the new system, emphasizing its efficiency in eliminating corruption and enhancing transparency in land administration.
Dr. Olajide Babatunde, Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, explained that the system streamlines data across government agencies, simplifying the land administration process for the public.
Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, commended the administration for creating an unbreakable data chain, making information about state lands instantly accessible.
