Time Out, a renowned publisher of guides and magazines, has designated Lagos as the 19th best city to visit globally, according to its latest rankings.
The survey, drawing insights from over 20,000 city residents worldwide and Time Out’s editorial network, evaluated cities based on diverse criteria such as food quality and affordability, cultural offerings, nightlife, overall ambiance, community spirit, access to green spaces, and historical sites.
Among African cities, Lagos stood out alongside South Africa’s Cape Town (ranked second) and Ghana’s Accra (44th) on the prestigious list. Time Out encouraged global citizens to explore Lagos, citing the city’s appeal to a diverse range of preferences and interests.
The report highlighted various aspects of Lagos, emphasizing its ongoing expansion, including the Eko Atlantic City’s live-work-play concept and the booming developments in Epe, north of Lekki Lagoon.
The city’s high standard of living was acknowledged, with positive ratings for happiness (96%), perceived beauty (98%), and friendliness (92%).
Key attractions mentioned in the report include Victoria Island’s upscale resorts, food establishments, and nightlife, Kuti’s Bistro in Ikeja owned by the legendary afrobeat family for its “reliably delicious food,” and Oniru Beach as a relaxation spot.
This recognition contrasts with a 2023 report by the Economist Intelligence Unit, which ranked Lagos as the fourth-worst city to live in globally. The Time Out rankings offer a different perspective, placing Lagos among the top 20 cities worldwide.
