In a bid to enhance security measures during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, has pledged to implement a robust security plan to protect residents and their properties.
The announcement was made during Fayoade’s interaction with journalists after assuming the role of Commissioner of Police in the Lagos Command.
Fayoade emphasized the continuation and intensification of the clampdown on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, in prohibited areas. He credited this initiative with contributing to a reduction in crime and road accidents in the state.
Taking over from the acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Waheed Ayilara, Fayoade expressed his commitment to working in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure comprehensive security coverage across all parts of Lagos.
He assured the public, stating, “Residents of Lagos should go about their normal business; they should enjoy their Christmas and New Year. We are going to provide watertight security that will protect lives and property. Our men will be visible at all areas, fun centres, our patrol will be very effective. Christmas and New Year will be crime-free.”
Fayoade commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support and commitment to security in the state. He also acknowledged the efforts of his predecessors, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa and DCP Waheed Ayillara, in establishing a robust security architecture in Lagos.
The new Commissioner of Police pledged dedication, commitment, and adherence to the principles of justice and safety in the state. He emphasized the importance of practical, proactive policing, community engagement, and effective law enforcement strategies to create a peaceful and crime-free environment.
Fayoade outlined his vision for effective policing in Lagos, focusing on pillars such as community engagement, crime prevention and reduction, and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies. Special attention will be given to combating crimes like kidnapping, cultism, robbery, and traffic robbery.
To address these issues, Fayoade announced the establishment of a specialized unit composed of well-trained and well-equipped personnel
. He emphasized collaboration with the judiciary for swift prosecution and conviction of criminals, with a strong emphasis on deterrence.
The Commissioner assured the public that measures would be implemented to strengthen intelligence gathering capabilities and aggressively pursue violators of the law. The clampdown on commercial motorcycle operators in prohibited areas, credited with reducing crime and accidents, will be sustained and intensified.
Fayoade acknowledged the crucial role of journalists in a democratic society and expressed the police’s commitment to transparent collaboration for effective dissemination of information on crime, safety measures, and public awareness campaigns.
He concluded by reiterating his commitment to transparency, accountability, and professionalism in the Lagos State Police Command.
