Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a significant wage boost for workers, revealing that an additional N35,000 allowance has been in effect since January.
This revelation comes as part of the state government’s forthcoming rollout of a new minimum wage scheme.
Addressing the public, Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed that individuals earning a minimum wage of N35,000 or higher now receive a salary of N70,000 or more, effective from the start of the year.
He emphasised that this measure aims to provide crucial support to workers during these challenging times.
Furthermore, Governor Sanwo-Olu outlined the state’s efforts to alleviate economic hardship, including plans to distribute food items to 500,000 households through unions and local governments.
He highlighted the ‘Ounje Eko’ initiative, which offers discounted food items through 59 makeshift markets across the state’s local government areas, operating every Sunday.
