Ariehi Kparobo delivered a standout performance, scoring a superb half-volley that secured Beyond Limits’ place in the Optima Energy Gold Cup final for the second consecutive year. The thrilling semi-final took place at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, where fans were treated to an electrifying contest.
The match began with both teams showcasing their skills, much to the delight of the spectators who had gathered to witness the first semi-final of the prestigious off-season tournament. Beyond Limits, the only team to have won all their group matches in the 12th edition of the competition, dominated possession and had four shots on goal in the first half.
As the clock approached halftime, Kparobo stole the show with a sublime strike from outside the box in the 45th minute. His half-volley left the goalkeeper with no chance, giving Beyond Limits a crucial lead going into the break. This goal also marked Kparobo’s third in the tournament, bringing him closer to the top scorer’s award, currently led by Ikorodu City’s Thankgod Chilaka.
The second half saw a balanced contest, with FC Ebedei pushing hard for an equaliser. However, Beyond Limits’ defence held firm, frustrating their opponents’ attempts to level the score. In the dying moments of regular time, FC Ebedei had a golden opportunity to take the match to penalties, but Olaide Owoyemi’s effort found the side netting. This missed chance ensured that Beyond Limits remained on course to be crowned the 2024 Optima Energy Gold Cup champions, as they now look ahead to the final.
