Kogi State licensed coal miners expressed their support for the actions taken by the federal and state governments to curb illegal mining activities.
Led by Innocent Ezuma, Executive Chairman of Etazuma Mining and Industries Limited, the miners commend the collaborative efforts between the Federal Government, represented by President Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of Solid Mineral Development Dele Alake, and Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
The endorsement follows the recent seizure of 21 trucks loaded with coal, totaling 945 tonnes, all originating from illegal mining operations within Kogi State.
The clampdown, initiated in response to a nationwide ban on illegal mining announced by Minister Dele Alake, aims to eradicate illicit practices detrimental to both the industry and public safety.
The urgency of the government’s action is underscored by the tragic explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, last week, attributed to illegal mining activities.
The incident resulted in the loss of at least three lives, prompting heightened scrutiny and stricter measures to ensure the safety and legitimacy of mining operations across the nation.
The coal miners’ statement highlights their satisfaction with the level of coordination between the federal and state authorities in addressing this critical issue.
