Kenyan authorities have apprehended Nadeem Anjarwalla, a senior executive at Binance, following his evasion of Nigerian custody.
Sources within the government, speaking anonymously due to the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed the arrest on Sunday night.
Anjarwalla is slated for extradition to Nigeria within the week, under the coordination of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL).
The Federal Government of Nigeria has been tracking Anjarwalla’s whereabouts since his escape from lawful custody within the country. Collaborative efforts between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), International Criminal Police, Nigeria Police Force, and Kenyan Police Service have intensified to expedite his return to Nigeria.
Anjarwalla’s cover was blown upon his arrival in Kenya, prompting swift action from Nigerian authorities. The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, affirmed the commission’s commitment to partnering with international agencies, including the FBI and authorities from the UK and Kenya, to secure Anjarwalla’s extradition.
The charges against Anjarwalla, alongside Binance Holdings Limited and Tigran Gambaryan, involve allegations of tax evasion, currency speculation, and money laundering amounting to $35.4 million. While Gambaryan is currently in custody, efforts to bring Anjarwalla to justice are underway. The involvement of multiple international agencies underscores the seriousness of the charges and the determination to uphold financial integrity.
