Kano State has celebrated a mass wedding ceremony, joining together a total of 1,800 couples with the financial support provided by the state government.
Notably, the majority of the beneficiaries are widows and divorcees, underscoring the state’s commitment to providing opportunities for vulnerable individuals.
Furthermore, the state government has gone the extra mile by covering nearly N50,000 in dowry expenses on behalf of each groom, facilitating the marriage process for the couples.
As part of the comprehensive mass wedding program, the newlyweds were also furnished with a bed, bedding, food, and clothing, all aimed at ensuring a smooth start to their married life. However, a unique feature of this initiative is that, in the event of a divorce, the couples are obligated to reimburse the state government for these gifts.
This provision encourages the couples to work towards sustaining their marriages and fosters accountability in the event of dissolution. Channels TV reports
