The Kano State Hisbah Board has made significant strides in its ongoing efforts to enforce prohibition laws and maintain public morality within the state.

According to reports disclosed by Idris Ibrahim, the officer in charge of intoxicants, the Hisbah operatives intercepted a van transporting 8,600 bottles of beer along the Kano-Kaduna Expressway at Kwanar Dangora village. The vehicle, which originated from Kaduna, was apprehended following a diligent tracking operation conducted by the Hisbah team.

Despite the driver’s attempted escape, the vigilant operatives successfully apprehended him. As per Ibrahim, the sale and consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited in Kano State, thus necessitating legal action against the driver, who will be brought before the court after providing his statement.

Furthermore, the Hisbah command also carried out operations, resulting in the arrest of 15 young women suspected of engaging in prostitution across various locations within Kano City. These arrests were made in areas such as Hotoro Tishama, Bakin River Verd Sabon Gari, Miyangu Road, Hadejia Road, and the old Zoo Road motor parks.

Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of the board, confirmed the arrests, highlighting the persistence of some individuals in engaging in illicit activities despite previous legal actions.

He emphasised the need for continued vigilance from the public to assist in maintaining the state’s moral fabric.

Aminuddeen expressed concern for the well-being of the arrested women, noting the hardships they may face that lead them into such situations. He highlighted the prevalence of drug abuse among some of these individuals, which not only alters their appearance but also impacts their mental stability.

Aminuddeen urged parents to offer prayers for the protection of their children from the detrimental effects of drug abuse, which often serves as a gateway to various social vices.
