K1 De Ultimate Apologises For Airport Incident, Clarifies Flask Contained Water For Medical Condition.
Renowned Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has issued a heartfelt apology following a controversial incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on 5 August 2025. The 68-year-old music icon addressed the uproar in a personally signed statement released on Friday, clarifying that the flask at the centre of the dispute contained only water, not alcohol as alleged, due to a medical condition requiring constant hydration.
The incident occurred when K1 was preparing to board a ValueJet Airlines flight to Lagos. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) claimed the musician attempted to board with an “unidentified liquid substance,” leading to a confrontation with aviation security and the flight captain. Reports suggested K1’s actions caused a delay and resulted in the suspension of two ValueJet pilots, prompting widespread speculation. However, K1 firmly denied these claims, stating the flask was empty during two security checks and was filled with water at the airport lounge before he approached the tarmac. He also clarified that he had not boarded the aircraft, let alone been deboarded, and urged authorities to review CCTV footage to verify his account.
In his statement, K1 explained that he suffers from chronic dehydration, a condition necessitating constant hydration on medical advice. “Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me. Contrary to the negative narrative being circulated, the flask contained only water — not alcohol,” he said. The musician expressed deep regret for the disruption caused, emphasising that he had no intention of violating aviation protocols or causing a disturbance.
K1 extended unreserved apologies to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet Airlines, and his fans worldwide. “My unwavering patriotism and loyalty to the Federal Republic of Nigeria have never been in doubt. Over the past five decades, I have used my platform to promote the Nigerian brand globally,” he added, underscoring his commitment to his country and his craft.
The apology has been widely acknowledged, with many praising K1’s transparency and humility in addressing the incident. The clarification puts to rest rumours that had sparked debates about aviation safety and public conduct, reinforcing the musician’s reputation as a respected figure in Nigeria’s cultural landscape. As K1 continues to inspire through his music, this resolution highlights his dedication to maintaining trust and goodwill with his audience and the nation.
