JUST-IN: Trump Initiates Major Staff Purge At White House National Security Council

Trump Initiates Major Staff Purge At White House National Security Council.

US President Donald Trump has overseen the dismissal of several high-ranking officials from the White House National Security Council (NSC) on Thursday morning. This action, described by sources as the first significant purge of his renewed presidency, signals a bold reshaping of the administration’s national security apparatus.

Reports indicate that the firings took place with immediate effect, though the precise reasons remain unclear. According to three individuals familiar with the matter, speaking to Reuters, the sacked officials included senior figures such as David Feith, who served as Senior Director overseeing technology and national security, and Brian Walsh, Senior Director for intelligence matters. The NSC, a critical body advising the President on national security and foreign policy, declined to comment officially on the dismissals.

Speculation surrounding the purge points to a combination of factors. Two sources suggested that issues with background vetting may have played a role, while another hinted at concerns over loyalty and potential leaks to the media. The timing of the firings has also raised eyebrows, coming just a day after a reported Oval Office meeting between President Trump and Laura Loomer, a prominent right-wing activist known for her outspoken views. Sources claim Loomer urged Trump to remove NSC staff she deemed insufficiently aligned with his agenda, though any direct link between her influence and the sackings remains unconfirmed.

The dismissals follow a broader effort by Trump’s team to ensure the NSC reflects his “America First” priorities. Earlier this year, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz sent approximately 160 non-political detailees back to their home agencies, a move intended to streamline the council and prioritise personnel committed to the President’s vision. Critics, however, warn that sidelining experienced experts—particularly at a time of complex global challenges, including ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East—could weaken the administration’s ability to respond effectively.

The purge has sparked mixed reactions. Supporters of Trump argue it demonstrates his resolve to root out disloyalty and inefficiency, a promise central to his campaign. On social media platform X, Loomer herself celebrated the move, stating, “It was an honour to meet with President Trump and present him with my research findings. Strong vetting is essential to protect our national security.” Detractors, meanwhile, express alarm at the influence of figures like Loomer, whose history of promoting conspiracy theories has long been controversial.

As the dust settles, the exact number of officials affected and the long-term implications for US foreign policy remain uncertain. What is clear, however, is that Trump’s second term is off to a decisive start, with the President wasting no time in stamping his authority on the White House. Further details are expected to emerge as the administration navigates this turbulent transition.

This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
