President Bola Tinubu is currently engaged in a private meeting with traditional rulers at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This marks the second closed-door session he has held on Thursday amid rising calls for a planned protest on August 1.
Among the government officials present at the meeting are Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, members of the President’s cabinet, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL Mele Kyari, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, and Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.
The traditional rulers attending include the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar III; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; and the Dein of Agbor, His Royal Majesty Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborokuzi I.
This ongoing meeting follows an earlier session with members of the Progressive Governors Forum and a Wednesday evening encounter with the Nigerian Governors Forum, which came after the cancellation of the National Economic Council meeting initially scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
Sources indicate that the current discussions are likely aimed at addressing and possibly mitigating the concerns of those planning to protest against the administration over the prevailing economic situation in the country.
