Just In: Emir Of Zamfara Dr. Ibrahim Bello Is Dead.

The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, passed away on Friday, 25 July 2025, at the age of 71, after a prolonged illness. His death, confirmed by Sulaiman Idris, spokesperson for Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, has prompted an outpouring of tributes celebrating his remarkable decade-long reign and contributions to the state and beyond. The monarch’s passing in Abuja marks the end of an era for the Gusau Emirate, where he served as a unifying figure and a beacon of wisdom.

Dr. Bello ascended the throne as the 16th Emir of Gusau on 16 March 2015, succeeding his father. Before his royal appointment, he had a distinguished career in the civil service, rising to the rank of Permanent Secretary in both the former Sokoto State and later Zamfara State. His leadership was marked by unwavering commitment to the socio-cultural development of Zamfara, fostering peace and progress during challenging times. Governor Lawal described him as a “dependable royal father” whose guidance was invaluable to state leaders, adding, “I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guides me.”

The Zamfara State Council of Chiefs and residents have hailed Dr. Bello’s legacy, noting his dedication to service and deep faith. His reign, spanning over ten years, saw him champion community development and strengthen traditional institutions across northern Nigeria. Tributes from across the region have highlighted his role as a respected leader whose influence extended beyond Zamfara, earning him admiration as a national figure.

Governor Lawal expressed profound sadness, stating, “His Highness’s passing is a huge loss for the people of Zamfara State, as well as for the North and Nigeria as a whole.” He extended heartfelt condolences to the Gusau Emirate, the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, and the late Emir’s family, praying for Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannah Firdaus. As preparations for his burial rites begin, dignitaries and residents are expected to gather in Gusau to honour a leader remembered for his humility and vision.

The Emir’s contributions continue to inspire optimism for Zamfara’s future, with his legacy expected to guide ongoing efforts to strengthen unity and development in the region. The Gusau Emirate Council is set to announce details of the burial arrangements, as the state reflects on the enduring impact of a revered royal father.
