One AbdulGafar Ayanrinde who paraded himself as a lawyer has been sentences to three years imprisonment by an Osogbo magistrate’s court. The 25-years-old man was sentenced on Wednesday in Osun state.
According to a statement made by Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson of the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, it was reported on Wednesday that Ayanrinde had committed the offenses from the 18th to the 22nd of May 2023. Adeleke added that Ayanrinde was apprehended by NSCDC operatives on the 24th of May.
Adeleke further disclosed that Ayanrinde, having presented himself as a barrister at law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, duped five unsuspecting members of the public, and also stole an iPhone worth ₦450,000,00.
In the course of the trial, the spokesperson for the NSCDC stated that Ayanrinde had “entered a plea of guilty” to the two charges related to impersonation of a legal practitioner, as outlined in Section 484 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 34 of Osun State, Nigeria, and obtaining money through deceptive means, as stipulated in Section 419 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 34 of Osun State, Nigeria.
The magistrate declared that the sentences for the charges would be served simultaneously, and ordered that the amount of N150,000, which was obtained through the criminal activities, be transferred from the convict’s account to the victim’s account.
