Starting June 2024, Germany will unveil the “Opportunity Card,” designed to facilitate job search and residence for qualified individuals.
According to documents made available to newsmen , this card aims to streamline the process for securing employment in Germany, bypassing the often lengthy qualification recognition procedures.
Applicants must hold a minimum of two years of vocational training or a university degree, coupled with proficiency in either German (A1) or English (B2). Unlike previous processes, no proof of a permanent job contract is necessary.
The Opportunity Card is tailored for skilled workers who have already received full recognition of their qualifications, eliminating additional requirements. It offers a one-year validity, during which holders must demonstrate self-sufficiency. They can engage in work trials or secondary employment for up to 20 hours per week.
For those unable to secure another residency permit for employment but have viable job offers, the card can be extended for an additional two years.
To qualify, applicants must present evidence of their academic or vocational qualifications, recognized either by their home country or a German Chamber of Commerce Abroad. Proficiency in German (A1) or English (B2) is mandatory.
Applicants are evaluated based on various criteria, including qualification recognition, language proficiency, professional experience, age, ties to Germany, and potential family members accompanying them. A minimum score of six points is required to obtain the Opportunity Card.
This initiative aims to attract skilled professionals to Germany while simplifying the process of entering its workforce.
