JAMB Reopens Portal For 2025 WAEC Result Upload After Brief Suspension.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the reactivation of its portal for uploading 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, following a temporary suspension to address technical issues. The decision, confirmed on 20 August 2025, allows candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to proceed with uploading their O’level results, a critical step for securing admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
JAMB’s decision to pause the upload process on 14 August 2025 was prompted by discrepancies caused by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) revising its initially released results. The initial WASSCE results, announced on 4 August, reported that only 38.32% of candidates achieved five credits, including English and Mathematics, a sharp decline from previous years. Following an internal review, WAEC identified a grading error due to a misconfigured serialised code file affecting key subjects, leading to a corrected pass rate of 62.96%. JAMB temporarily closed its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) portal to ensure the accuracy of uploaded results, impacting candidates who had already submitted the initial, erroneous results.
The reopened portal now enables candidates to visit accredited JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide to upload their updated WAEC results. JAMB emphasized that only authorised centres should be used to prevent errors or fraudulent activities. “Dear UTME candidates, the upload of the 2025 WAEC result has been reactivated. Kindly visit any of our accredited facilities near you to access the service,” JAMB stated via its official X account. The board urged candidates to act promptly to avoid delays in the admission process for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The suspension had caused frustration among candidates and parents, with many expressing concerns over potential delays in post-UTME screenings. For instance, Fatimah Ajayi, a parent, noted that her daughter risked missing the University of Ibadan’s screening due to the portal’s closure. Social media posts on X echoed similar sentiments, with users like Abayomi Oluwatobiloba calling for clarity on the upload process. JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, refuted claims of an outright suspension, clarifying that the pause was necessary to align with WAEC’s corrections and maintain the integrity of the admissions database.
Uploading O’level results is a mandatory requirement for admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. Candidates who fail to upload their results risk exclusion from admission lists, regardless of their UTME scores. The process involves providing a scanned copy of the WAEC result, JAMB registration number, and a processing fee, typically between ₦500 and ₦1,000 at accredited centres. Candidates are advised to verify uploads on the JAMB CAPS portal to ensure their results are correctly reflected.
This development follows a challenging year for Nigeria’s examination bodies, with WAEC and the National Examinations Council (NECO) also facing technical issues that disrupted result verification and registration processes. JAMB’s swift reactivation of the portal has been welcomed as a step towards ensuring a smoother admission process for thousands of aspiring students.
