The Yobe State Government has announced that Monday, July 8, 2024, will be a work-free day in observance of the Islamic New Year 1446 After Hijrah.
According to a statement from the State Head of Service, Hamidu M. Alhaji, the public holiday is intended to give civil servants an opportunity to pray for peace and a bountiful harvest.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, declared Sunday, July 7, 2024, as the first day of Muharram, the initial month of the new Islamic year 1446 After Hijrah.
The Sultan extended his felicitations to Nigerian Muslims on the occasion of the New Year and encouraged continued prayers for peace, progress, and development in the country.
