The internet observatory Netblocks reports on Thursday that a major internet outage affected West and Central Africa, citing information from operators of multiple subsea cable failures.
This outage, has caused severe connectivity issues in several countries, including Ivory Coast, Liberia, Benin, Ghana, and Burkina Faso, according to Netblocks data.
The exact cause of the cable failures remains unclear, leaving affected nations scrambling to address the widespread outage. Cloudflare, a prominent internet firm, has also corroborated the extent of the disruptions, stating ongoing connectivity issues in Gambia, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, and Niger.
Cloudflare’s monitoring accounts suggest a pattern in the timing of the disruptions, impacting regions from the northern to the southern parts of Africa.
South African telecoms giant Vodacom has also acknowledged connectivity issues within its network, attributing them to the undersea cable failures affecting network providers across the country.
