Infrastructure, Security, And Education Dominate Tinubu’s ₦47.9 Trillion 2025 Budget Proposal.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has presented the 2025 budget proposal, titled The Resurrection Budget: Security, Peace, Building Prosperity, to a joint session of the National Assembly. The ₦47.9 trillion proposal, unveiled on Wednesday in Abuja, prioritises security, defence, infrastructure, education, and health as key sectors for national development.
Key Budget Allocations
The President outlined the budget’s focus on addressing critical challenges facing the nation, with the following highlights:
– Defence and Security: ₦4.91 trillion to tackle insecurity and strengthen the country’s defence systems.
– Infrastructure: ₦4.06 trillion to drive economic growth through improved transportation, energy, and public works.
– Education: ₦3.5 trillion to enhance learning outcomes and educational access.
– Health: ₦2.4 trillion to improve healthcare delivery and access across the country.
President Tinubu also stressed the importance of food security, asserting that ensuring Nigerians have adequate nutrition is a non-negotiable priority.
During his address, the President called for collective action to confront national challenges, including corruption and insecurity. “Our nation faces existential threats from corruption and insecurity. These challenges are surmountable when we work collaboratively. The time for lamentation is over. The time to act is now,” he declared.
He emphasised that the 2025 budget is more than a statement of projected revenues and expenditures; it is a blueprint for decisive action and meaningful change.
President Tinubu was joined at the presentation by key government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The budget presentation, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was rescheduled to Wednesday following a Federal Executive Council meeting earlier in the week.
The proposed budget underscores the administration’s commitment to addressing critical issues and fostering prosperity across the nation. Lawmakers are expected to deliberate on the proposal in the coming weeks.
