INEC Publishes Candidate Details Ahead Of Anambra Governorship Election.
In a significant step towards ensuring transparency in the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made public the personal particulars of all candidates and their running mates. The details, including copies of Form EC9 and accompanying academic credentials and documents, are now on display at INEC’s State Headquarters and across its 21 Local Government offices in Anambra.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun. He noted that the publication complies with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and aligns with item 4 of the Commission’s Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election.
According to Olumekun, 16 political parties successfully uploaded their candidates’ nomination forms by the deadline of 6:00 p.m. on Monday, 12th May 2025, when the dedicated portal automatically closed. This followed the conclusion of party primaries, marking a key milestone in the electoral process.
INEC has urged Nigerians to thoroughly examine the published documents and take legal action if necessary. “We appeal to Nigerians to scrutinise the documents. Any aspirant who participated in their party primaries with reasonable grounds to believe that a candidate’s information is false can challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court, as provided in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022,” Olumekun stated.
The final list of candidates will be published on 9th June 2025, at least 150 days before the election, in accordance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and item 7 of the election timetable. The Anambra State governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, 8th November 2025.
This proactive move by INEC underscores its commitment to fostering a transparent and credible electoral process, allowing citizens to play an active role in upholding the integrity of the polls.
