INEC Presents Certificate Of Return To Governor Aiyedatiwa And Deputy.

In a ceremonial event at the National Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, Professor Kunle Ajayi, the INEC National Commissioner for Ondo, Ogun, and Osun States, presented the Certificate of Return to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his Deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami.

The ceremony marks the official conclusion of the governorship election process in Ondo State, following the election held on 16 November 2024.

Professor Ajayi underscored the significance of the occasion, describing it as the culmination of a democratic process reflecting the will of the people. “This ceremony is a testament to the democratic aspirations of the good people of Ondo State,” he said, commending the electorate for their peaceful conduct throughout the process.

Ajayi highlighted the absence of major electoral violence as a significant achievement, attributing the success to the collaboration of political parties, candidates, and security agencies. He also lauded INEC’s dedication to improving election transparency and efficiency through the use of advanced technology and meticulous planning.

“This event represents the official acknowledgment of the mandate conferred by the people of Ondo State, as stipulated in Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act. It is a solemn reminder of the responsibility entrusted to the elected officials,” he added, urging the governor and his deputy to prioritise good governance and uphold democratic principles.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his gratitude to the people of Ondo State for their overwhelming support. “Today marks the conclusion of an electoral journey that began months ago with our party’s primaries. I am deeply thankful to the people of Ondo State who came out in large numbers to renew their mandate for our party, the APC, and for my administration,” he said.

He acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing a level playing field during the election and commended INEC for its professionalism and commitment to conducting a credible election. The governor also praised the security agencies for ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

“You have renewed my mandate across the 18 local government areas, and I am humbled by your trust. This places a greater burden on me to serve you even better than I have done in the past ten months,” Aiyedatiwa concluded.

The issuance of the Certificates of Return cements the victory of Governor Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, signifying a renewed commitment to leadership and development for the people of Ondo State.
