The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the closure of the media accreditation portal for the upcoming Edo State governorship election.
According to INEC, the portal will shut down at midnight tonight, with no extensions to the deadline.
This announcement was made by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement released on Wednesday. The Edo State governorship election is set to take place on September 21, 2024.
As of now, 113 media organizations have registered a total of 865 journalists to cover the election. INEC emphasized the importance of meeting the accreditation deadline, stating that any media outlet failing to complete the process by tonight will be barred from observing both the voting process and the collation of results.
Media organizations have been urged to act swiftly to ensure their participation in covering this electoral event. Olumekun reiterated that the deadline is non-negotiable, and unaccredited media outlets will not be permitted to engage in election observation activities.
