Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Arrives In Nigeria For Historic State Visit.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, officially welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nigeria on Saturday night, marking a significant diplomatic occasion. Narendra Modi’s arrival at the Presidential Wing of the Ahmadu Bello Airport heralds the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years, the last being Dr Manmohan Singh in 2007.
During his two-day state visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday. According to a statement from President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the visit will focus on strengthening the longstanding ties between Nigeria and India.
The two leaders are expected to engage in bilateral discussions aimed at fostering collaboration across critical sectors. The discussions will culminate in the exchange of signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to formalise agreements on enhanced cooperation.
The visit also symbolises the renewal of the strategic partnership established between the two nations in 2007. India remains a key trade and investment partner for Nigeria, with both countries sharing robust economic and cultural connections.
